Prof. Dr. Mirtchev

Professor Alexander Mirtchev, LLM, PhD, is an American academic, executive, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.

He is actively engaged in geopolitics, geo-economics, security policy, and the analysis and mitigation of political risk.

Dr. Mirtchev serves as a Vice Chair of the Atlantic Council of the United States, where he is also a member of the Executive and Strategy Committees, as well as the Advisory Council of the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security.

Currently, Prof. Dr. Mirtchev holds the position of Distinguished Visiting Professor at George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government.

Prof. Dr. Mirtchev has authored several monographs and numerous policy articles that have made a substantial impact on academic and policy discourse. His recent book, The Prologue: The Alternative Energy Megatrend in the Age of Great Power Competition, is published in English, Spanish, German, Russian, and Mandarin, and is also available as an audiobook.

Dr. Mirtchev is a Founding Council Member of the Kissinger Institute on China and the United States at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He was also a Wilson National Cabinet member and a Senior Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

Prof. Dr. Mirtchev served as Vice President of The Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI) in the United Kingdom and Executive Chairman of RUSI International. He is also an active member of The Royal Institute of International Affairs (commonly known as Chatham House).

Dr. Mirtchev is currently an Executive Editor of the Atlantic Council Strategy Papers and was Editor and Publisher of several academic and policy journals. He was also a Member of the Advisory Board to Wall Street Week on Fox Business.

As a serial entrepreneur, Prof. Dr. Mirtchev works at the forefront of ventures in alternative energy, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other advanced technologies. He has served as president and chairman of several enterprises, including Krull Corp USA—a macroeconomic consultancy he founded and continues to lead.

Earlier in his business career, Prof. Dr. Mirtchev was Director of the International Business and Investment Division at Stewart & Stewart, a top-rated Washington, D.C. international law firm specializing in international trade remedy proceedings and WTO negotiations. He served as Chairman of a high-end risk mitigation services joint venture with a NASDAQ-listed corporation. Additionally, he was Chairman of a Sustainable Development Fund and a Board Member of a Sovereign Wealth Fund, among other notable roles.

Prof. Dr. Mirtchev holds an LL.M. in International and Comparative Law from George Washington University and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from St. Kliment Ohridski University, where he also served as an Associate Professor. He pursued further studies in economics and finance at the London School of Economics, Boston University, and Harvard Business School. Professor Mirtchev’s academic distinctions include Honorary Doctorates from the Ukrainian Academy of Foreign Trade and several other international institutions.

Professor Mirtchev’s personal interests comprise ancient philosophy, opera, and the arts. He is the curator of the Hellenistic Tanagra Figurine Educational Initiative. He is a member of the  National Museum of Women in the Arts and the James Madison Council of the Library of Congress, among other notable causes.
